Our Story
Shawn Goldsmith, our CEO and Founder, realized early in his career that military strategy could be a powerful model for leading a successful business.
While earning his MBA at Cornell University, Shawn studied the ancient battlefield strategies of Caesar, Alexander, Hannibal and others under History Chair Barry Strauss.
Inspired by the principles he learned, Shawn launched Markarie to empower franchisors and business owners to compete effectively, expand their footprints, and become powerful leaders in their markets.

The word strategy itself derives from the battlefield — Strategos — ancient Greek for General. In
